You are legally entitled to get married in Greece if you are a foreigner. In order to go through with obtaining a legal marriage licences in Greece we recommend getting in touch with the local embassy in Athens. You will need to bring along with you:
- FULL birth certificate of the bride and groom,
- Certificate of no impediment to marriage or marriage license or capacity to marry of the bride and groom,
- Divorce / adoption / change of name certificates where applied,
- Passports of the bride and groom.
You will have to have all of the documents translated and authenticated in Greece.
CAN I SYMBOLICALLY GET MARRIED IN GREECE
YES! For many couples opting to get legally married in Canada and have a symbolic elopement in Greece. This way you can avoid having to translate any documents and can easily register your marriage in Canada. For same sex couples this is the only option currently for getting "married in Greece" as Greece does not currently permit same sex marriage but does permit symbolic ceremonies.
